01. Why flux?

As a group of designers, having to filter through primarily Software Engineer roles when searching for design positions can be frustrating. Looking at it through a recruiting perspective, this process can be extremely inefficient. flux. is a centralized platform for hiring that provides tailored workflows, automated assessment tools, and collaborative features to streamline the evaluation process for UX design candidates.

THE PROBLEM

The current recruiting software market is filled with many Applicant Tracking and Hiring platforms such as Linkedin Recruiter, Workday, Greenhouse, and Lever. Unfortunately, these software options are not optimized for hiring UX Designers.

They don't do well at accommodating the higher emphasis that is put on portfolio websites nor do they consider the different stages and interviews such as Take Home Design Challenges, to Portfolio Presentations, to App Critiques to Whiteboard Exercises.

02. The Design Process

PRELIMINARY RESEARCH

Our team analyzed 4 existing recruiting platforms—LinkedIn, Workday, Greenhouse, Lever—and investigated the pros and cons of each platform when it came to recruiting UX designers.

We noticed that many recruiter apps are not optimized for UX design applications (e.g. evaluating portfolio websites, whiteboarding questions), which motivated us to pursue this track and try to come up with a good solution. We then began brainstorming potential features and user flows. We focused on two user personas: a Head Recruiter and a Senior Designer for a Startup. We wanted to ensure that our features accommodated both beginner and experienced recruiters.

FEATURE IDEATION

After establishing the primary features and user flows for each of them, each of us took a feature and started on lo-fidelity sketches, as well as potential logo ideas.

I was assigned with designing the user flow for interview feedback and scoring. One feature I wanted to incorporate with this flow was the rubric being an overlay on top of the interview notes. This way, the evaluator would be able to simultaneously view the interview and decide scores based on the rubric without having to consistently switch tabs or look between two different places.

From there, we went into Figma and started prototyping our website.

03. Reflection

I learnt a lot working with a team of designers because I was taught of a lot of design fundamentals that I didn’t know before. This was the first time where I was able to go through the entire design process from researching to hi-fidelity and I learnt a lot of new skills along the way. Unfortunately, due to the time constraints we weren’t able to flesh out a lot of the features, but I definitely want to go back and expand on this project further in the future.
